Product leaflet
A versatile and popular marketing tool is the product leaflet. They are often the core of information that the customer and the sales people need, for a creative dialogue around single products.
The product leaflet typically consists of a graphic presentation of the product together with a general description. Furthermore they normally contains the technical specification and when applicable graphic presentation of performance numbers.
The product leaflet is often the template for how a product is presented in catalogs, on the web and in other marketing material. They are well suited for direct marketing or as attachments in quotations, or give away at customer seminar, trade shows and other such events.
Catalogs & books
From time to time there is a need to present all articles in a product line, all articles in a portfolio or all the company’s products and competencies, which commonly is done in a product catalog or book. Here all the products that are sold are gathered and sorted. When the company market several tailor made product portfolios to different customer segments, they often choose to issue different catalogs for the portfolios/customer groups.
The advantage with a product catalog is that all the information is in one book, which is easier to handle than e.g. 45 different product leaflets. The drawback with a catalog is that it very soon after printing becomes a historic document, and contains more and more altered and obsolete products.
Catalog/book projects are often huge and not uncomplicated. When several product portfolios are presented it also involves several product managers that have to come to terms. Today many new companies issues their catalogs on the web, rather than printing them. This is the correct decision when the industry logic prescribes this. In older established trades where printed catalogs always been the information source, abandoning the printed catalog to swift might be risky. The printed catalog also plays an important role in the customer sales representative meeting.
